Looking After Your Lighting

Lighting is the finishing touch to any interior. To ensure your lamps and pendants continue to illuminate your home beautifully and safely, follow our specialist care and maintenance advice.

Illuminating Craftsmanship

From hand-blown glass to precision-engineered metals, our lighting collection combines delicate materials with functional design. Proper care not only preserves the aesthetic brilliance of your pieces but also ensures their long-term electrical safety.

A Sustainable Glow

At The Crafted Home, we advocate for longevity. By following these care instructions and using the correct energy-efficient bulbs, you maintain the quality of your lighting fixtures while making a conscious choice for a more sustainable home environment.

Safety First

Always switch off the electricity at the mains before cleaning or changing a bulb. Allow the bulb and the fixture to cool completely before touching them to avoid burns or electrical hazards.

Ensure you are using the correct wattage and bulb type as specified on the fixture's label. Overheating caused by incorrect bulbs can damage internal wiring and discolour shades.

Surface & Finish

For metal finishes (brass, chrome, or powder-coated), use a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. Avoid using abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners, as these can strip the protective lacquer or finish.

Glass components should be dusted regularly. For smears, use a slightly damp cloth with a dash of mild glass cleaner, ensuring no liquid enters the electrical sockets. Buff immediately with a dry cloth to prevent water spots.

Shade Care

Fabric and paper shades attract dust easily. We recommend using a soft clothes brush or a clean paint brush to gently whisk away dust. Avoid using water on paper shades, as this will cause permanent staining and warping.

For silk or delicate textile shades, a lint roller can be highly effective for removing surface debris without damaging the fragile fibres.

Handling Advice

When installing or adjusting pendant lights, handle glass globes with clean gloves to prevent oil from your skin transferring to the surface, which can cause "hot spots" on the glass over time.

Do not pull on the electrical cord to adjust the height of a pendant. Use the provided ceiling rose adjustments or suspension wires to ensure the weight of the fixture is properly supported.

Happiness Guaranteed

At The Crafted Home, our lighting collection is designed to create an atmosphere of warmth and elegance. Every piece undergoes thorough quality and safety checks before it reaches your home.
