Looking After Your Rugs

A high-quality rug brings warmth and texture to a room. To ensure yours ages beautifully and retains its structural integrity, follow our specialist maintenance and cleaning advice.

Foundation of Comfort

Our rugs are crafted from premium natural and synthetic fibres, designed to withstand daily life while maintaining their luxury feel. From hand-knotted wool to delicate silk blends, proper care is the key to preventing premature wear and fading.

Sustainable Texturing

At The Crafted Home, we believe in pieces that last. By caring for your rug correctly, you extend the life of the fibres and reduce the need for replacements, making a conscious choice for a more sustainable and timeless interior.

Routine Cleaning

New rugs, especially woollen ones, will naturally shed loose fibres during the first few months. Vacuum your rug regularly (at least twice a week) using a suction-only setting. Avoid using beater bars or rotating brushes, as these can pull and damage the delicate fibres.

To ensure even wear and prevent fading in high-traffic areas or sun-exposed spots, we recommend rotating your rug 180 degrees every six months.

Spills & Stains

Accidents happen, but speed is essential. Blot liquid spills immediately with a clean, dry white cloth or paper towel. Never rub the stain, as this will push the liquid deeper into the pile and may damage the rug's structure.

For solid spills, use a spoon to gently scrape away the excess before blotting. If a stain persists, consult a professional rug cleaner rather than using harsh household chemicals which can cause permanent discolouration.

Pile Care

If you notice a loose thread (a "sprout"), do not pull it. Instead, carefully snip it level with the rest of the pile using a pair of sharp scissors. This is a normal occurrence in hand-tufted and hand-knotted rugs.

To remove furniture indentations, dampen the area slightly with a spray bottle and gently brush the pile upwards with your fingers or a soft-bristled brush.

Protection

We strongly recommend using a high-quality rug underlay. This not only prevents the rug from slipping but also provides a cushion that reduces the internal friction of the fibres, significantly extending the rug's lifespan.

Avoid damp environments. Ensure the floor is completely dry before laying your rug, as trapped moisture can lead to mould and mildew which can ruin natural backings.

Happiness Guaranteed

At The Crafted Home, every rug is selected for its exceptional quality and craftsmanship. We want our rugs to be the soulful heart of your living space for many years.
